Coccyx or Tailbone Treatment

Coccyx or Tailbone Injury (Fractured Coccyx or Tailbone, Dislocated Coccyx or Tailbone, Coccydynia)

Some of the most common causes of Coccyx or Tailbone injury are:

• Hard fall on the buttocks

• Repetitive, minor falls on the buttocks—skating, skiing or similar

• A front-end or rear-end car crash

• Job that requires too much sitting

Ironically easy to diagnose and correct, with few doctors trained to treat them, Coccyx or Tailbone injury sufferers often find it impossible to find doctors who are trained in Coccyx or Tailbone manipulation. Most alarming is that many sufferers of coccydynia are mistaken or accused of being “hypochondriacs, depressive, pain intolerant or hormonal."

Dr. Kemper’s research and experience has established him as an expert at the forefront of treatment for this little-understood injury. Through years of specialized study he has been able to design a protocol to help sufferers of Coccyx or Tailbone-related symptoms or the “SacroCoccygeal” Syndrome. Attesting to this expertise and 30- years of experience are thousands of former coccydynia patients.

Sagittal Spine

Why are Coccyx or Tailbone injuries so damaging to the spine?

A Coccyx or Tailbone injury causes abnormal tension on the spinal cord and weakens the pelvic floor muscles 20-80%, leading to both joint and nerve symptoms. This happens when coccygeal function, which is movement, is lost, causing tension to be exerted on the delicate spinal cord and spinal nerves. As a result, muscle tension immediately increases giving rise to pain in the Coccyx or Tailbone, pelvic floor, thighs and back, to name only a few known complications.

You may have been told that your Coccyx or Tailbone was fractured; in reality, the great flexibility of the tailbone makes fractures or dislocations very rare. Instead, ligaments, torn as a result of Coccyx or Tailbone injury, load up with scar tissue, further impeding normal coccygeal movement. Once sufficient coccygeal motion is lost the spinal cord and nerves become increasingly affected. Click here for more information on Fractured or Dislocated Coccyx or Tailbone.

Dislocated Coccyx

Diagnosis

• Review patient’s history for accurate perspective

• Strength & flexibility testing to measure dural tension

• Thorough physical examination performed

• X-rays are taken to evaluate alignment

• Clear report of findings and treatment recommendations.

Treatment

• Coccygeal manipulation may be provided with or without pain medicine, depending upon the severity of the case. Several levels of sedation and analgesia may be provided as needed.

• Pelvic alignment, simple exercises and definitive advice on how to stay well are provided each day of the FastTrack week(s)
